"Yellow House"
2012 Kuo Chuan 39, Singapore

Yellow house was made when I was about to leave Singapore in 2012, and for a month had no house anymore. Thanks to my friend and glass artist B. Jane Cowie, I could do an artist residency at her studio.
The work is made from an old Chinese bunkbed found on the street, then it became my bed, my worktable, my studio, after which I turned it into this symbolic house, not needing the functions anymore. The fabric was recycled from the Wayang Playstage, being rejected for it being yellow and having to much reference to Budhism.

Yellow is a reference to the ‘yellow man’ AKA performance artist Lee Wen, who commented on Western views of Asian culture with his ‘yellow man’ performances.
